Stretch marks can occur in people who experience significant weight gain, weight loss or a growth spurt. Stretch marks can also be an upsetting result of pregnancy when a women’s body undergoes a number of hormonal changes, as well as weight gain relating to carrying a child. These changes can affect not only the condition of skin but also the stretching of the tissues. This can leave unsightly streaks on the surface of the skin. Stretch marks are simply unfair--and we know how to minimize their appearance.

Causes of Stretch Marks

Natural weight gain that occurs over time can cause the skin to stretch and discolor. Pregnancy causes an increase in the volume of blood and fluids in the tissues of the body which can lead to many physical changes you never anticipated.

Skin discoloration comes from the damage that occurs in the connective tissue of the skin. These streaks and bands on the skin may have a glossy appearance. They usually occur on the abdomen, breasts, thighs, hips or buttocks. Though the discoloration diminishes over time, the stretch marks still remain visible to some extent. Experts believe a genetic component determines how much you will be prone to stretch marks. Some women can carry twins and have no stretch marks at all. Again—not fair!!
